Lindisfarne - Rebuilding the Castle Walls
Sections of the loose stonework were carefully taken down, cleaned, and set aside for re-use.
Voids were tightly packed with haired lime mortar and shards of Thermalite block, both to create an environment to encourage drying out of the structure and to reduce the likeliness of shrinkage.
The original stones were re-used wherever possible. These were packed and pinned and set at the exact building line to allow the final sneck harl to be applied at the specified thickness.
